If your lift has no car door, read on

Many older lifts have no inner car door, don't level properly or are missing a safety system that is now mandatory. With children and older people at home, that's no small detail.

Safety

What makes an old lift unsafe

Lifts installed decades ago were built under different regulations. The most common ones have features that wouldn’t be allowed in a new installation today, and the new ITC (Spain’s lift safety regulation) tightens up on exactly this. The most frequent:

  • There’s no car door: on the way up you can see the shaft wall go past, and that’s a real risk, especially with children.
  • The lift car doesn’t level properly and stops a step above or below the landing, creating a trip hazard.
  • Safety systems that are now mandatory are missing.

We fit a car door, improve the levelling so the lift car stops flush with the landing, and upgrade the safety systems required by current regulations. It’s done in stages, without replacing the whole lift.

If you don’t know whether your lift complies, we check it against the new ITC and give you a clear report of what’s missing. All the details of the regulation are in the New ITC section.

Frequently asked questions

Is it mandatory to bring it up to date?

Several of these points are required by current regulations, and the new ITC tightens the deadlines. When we check your lift we’ll tell you what’s mandatory in your case.

Can a car door be fitted to an old lift?

In most cases, yes. It’s one of the most common safety upgrades and can usually be done without major building work.

And the levelling?

It’s corrected along with the modernisation of the controller, so the lift car always stops flush with the landing floor.
