The new ITC requires you to bring your lift up to date
The new Supplementary Technical Instruction (ITC) sets requirements that many lifts in service don't meet. It doesn't require you to replace the lift, but it does require you to bring it up to date. We'll tell you what's missing and sort it out.
What changes with the new ITC
ITC AEM 1 ‘Lifts’, approved by Royal Decree 355/2024 and in force since 1 July 2024, requires lifts that are already installed to be brought up to date. Many older lifts don’t meet some of the safety requirements the regulation now sets.
The measures that must be added to existing lifts include precise levelling with the floor, protection at the car doors and two-way communication so that help can be called from inside the car. The deadlines are staggered and, in many cases, are triggered by the periodic inspection.
Our job here is simple: we check your lift against the current ITC, give you a clear report of what’s missing — no jargon — and bring it into line in stages, without replacing the whole lift if it isn’t necessary. You’ll find all the details in the New ITC section.

Frequently asked questions
Does the ITC require me to replace my lift?
Not necessarily. It requires certain safety requirements to be met. In most cases, this is resolved by upgrading what’s missing in stages, not by replacing the lift.
How do I know what's missing?
With a check of your lift. We give you a report of what doesn’t comply and what needs doing on each point.
Are there deadlines?
Yes. The regulation sets staggered deadlines depending on the measure, and many run from the periodic inspection that identifies the shortcoming. When we check your lift, we’ll tell you which ones apply to it.
